More coffee: Cyclops Coffee to open second location within the year
Cyclops Coffee—which just opened its first location on Clark Avenue in East Long Beach earlier this year—is opening a second location at the small strip of units at 4100 E. Anaheim St. Owned and operated by former Steelcraft barista Steven Than, the name has quickly built up itself to already warrant a second location. And in case you didn’t know, Long Beach’s coffee game is on point.
Dairy Market by Breezy is bringing brunch to North Long Beach
What was once just a liquor store and then converted to a pseudo-restaurant-meets-market taqueria at 5440 Dairy Ave. in North Long Beach will become a brunch space dubbed Dairy Market by Breezy (the latter of whom is supposedly a restaurant consultant from New York City). Outside of that, little details are known. Follow their Instagram for more updates.

Shalp Muan collaborates with East L.A. sake/beer brewery Nova
Shlap Muan owner Hawk Tea is no stranger to collaborations—and his latest is one of his most adventurous: Partnering with East L.A. sake and beer for one day only on Saturday, Oct. 5. Hawk calls the flavor, “Cambodian Teriyaki sauce, my interpretation made with Sake Kasu from @novabrewingco. Done in the technique of our wok tossed wings. The subtle, yet pronounced note of Sake, lends perfectly to the sweet & umami of teriyaki. Garnished with Perilla for floral, licorice finish. Plus it looks nice.”
Indeed. Nova Brewing is located 1580 W. San Bernardino Rd. in Covina.
Ají Peruvian Cuisine broken into on 4th Street
Longtime Peruvian staple Ají on 4th Street was broken into last night. While owner Rosita Wang said LBPD was swift in responding, the window has been boarded, and they will once again be open daily at 5:30PM. So show them some love.
“The suspect broke our cash drawer, basically ripped it off the counter, took cash, broke one of the glass doors which was made for us,” Rosita said. “And tomorrow, we are going to know if they might have an extra or going to have to wait a few weeks for it. But we are open until then!”
Sonoratown sets permanent soft opening hours after hood fiasco
Sonoratown owner Jennifer Faltham had quite the first day after the famed taqueria space opened its doors publicly on Sept. 17: Their hood wasn’t controlling the smoke from the grill the way it needed to. Selling out in an hour-and-a-half, Jennifer chose to close Wednesday until the hood issue was handled. Now, the space will open Tuesday through Saturday from 11AM to 4PM until the kitchen can get into full swing. Once that moment hits, the taqueria will open for dinner.
ICYMI: Inaugural Taco Death Match festival announced for Nov. 3
I cannot tell you how stoked I am to announce my first formal involvement in a food event: Taco Death Match.
After being approached by the Broken Spirits team with the idea of a taco competition, I knew it had to be more than just that. So I brought on Sal and his amazing events team to take on something that treated the taco respectfully as the culinary wonder it is.
So we have a curated team of LB and the region’s best taqueros creating ‘ofrenda tacos,’ tacos they’ve never made that honor a dead loved one for Día de los Muertos. And then we’re pairing them with a local brewery for a beer that goes with their taco. Festival meets competition meets celebration.
It goes down Nov. 3. Here’s the details I can share now.
ICYMI: A look at Telefèric Long Beach’s inaugural traditional Spanish menu
Telefèric Long Beach—after announcing their plan to open a Long Beach location in October of 2023 and opening earlier this week—has unveiled their inaugural menu. Highlighting traditional Spanish cuisine, it is a reminder of the many gaps we have within our food scene. And for those seeking paella, aged-for-three-years jamón Ibérico, and croquetas.
They hosted a slew of media, influencers, friends, and family for a night with tidbits from their regular menu across a prix fixe dinner.
