Sprouts to open new grocery market by Long Beach traffic circle Oct. 11

Sprouts, the farmers market inspired grocer, will be opening a new location in Long Beach at the traffic circle. Located at 4600 E. Pacific Coast Hwy., the organic grocer plans to open its doors Oct. 11, joining the nearby Lakewood location in its collection of local locations.

What’s the plan with the new Sprouts Long Beach location?

Sprouts will move into the former Staples space at the southeast edge of the Traffic Circle, taking over a 23,117-square-foot space. With operating hours Monday through Sunday from 7AM to 10PM, the space will be a welcomed offshoot from the nearby but more pedestrian Vons and the far more expensive Lazy Acres.

“This is a full-service grocery store with a very different business model,” Terri Dickerhoff told the Planning Commission. He’s the principal of CGR Development, the company behind the store’s construction. “Sprouts Farmers Market is a grocery store specializing in farm-fresh produce from local growers. It will offer a full line of grocery products, including a Sprouts Private label of bakery goods, a full-service meat counter, and a deli. The stores feature natural, organic, and favorite indulgence foods at great value. Sprouts Farmers Market gives neighboring residents and workers a supermarket alternative for their shopping needs.”

A new facade, patio seating, and upgraded landscaping are already under the way, construction kicking off weeks ago. On top of this, their application for the sale of alcohol was approved earlier this month by the Planning Commission.

The grocer adds much-needed variety that stems away from massive grocers like Vons, Ralphs, and Whole Foods

Bigger grocers can often be frustrating for consumers. One often has to choose between uniqueness and quality in products versus cost savings—and sometimes, not even saving on lower-quality items.

“A variety of goods and services is vital for the growth of any neighborhood, and with an increase in retail choices, neighborhoods become more desirable to new residents,” Dickerhoff argued. “Sprouts Farmers Market offers an extensive—but not prescriptive—mix of natural, organic, and great-tasting mainstream foods with a strong emphasis on value. It has carved out that magical middle ground between conventional supermarkets and healthy food superstores, making this a unique retailer in this neighborhood.”

Sprouts Long Beach joins the brand as the fastest growing grocer

Sprouts’ growth is, well, rather wild. According to Dickerhoff, it is one of the fastest-growing retailers in the country.

Employing more than 36,000—with 100 to be added for the Sprouts Long Beach location—the store has over 390 stores in 23 states from coast to coast. There are 133 stores in California, with more stores added in 2024 and 2025, including Lawndale in August.

Sprouts Long Beach will be located at 4600 E. Pacific Coast Hwy. and open Oct. 11, 2024.
