Louie’s on 2nd rebrands as Shoreline

Louie’s on 2nd owner and longtime restaurateur Matt Tavlarides has abandoned his original concept—inspired by his own family’s original Louie’s on Main, which opened in 1953 in Garden Grove—and has officially rebranded his space as Shoreline Bar & Grill. The move reflects what the broader economy is seeking in restaurants: more affordability, more accessibility.

Look for a larger feature in the coming weeks.

Angel’s Share shifts ownership; to entirely rebrand in 2027

Angel’s Share owner Jack Walls has officially handed over the reins of the business to a new owner. Angel’s Share will remain in its current form through the year, with the over-the-top holiday takeover coming soon as they take down their Halloween decorations. After that, the space will be rebranded as an Indian-fusion spot.

The Attic opens up private room for dinner, brunch reservations

A bit of a personal ad because I want more people to know about it: A dear friend just got engaged, so we wanted to take her to brunch. I asked The Attic if they had a more private space because we would likely be exuberant in our conversation, and they provided us with this space. Just spectacular.

If you ever have a party of 8 or less, and want a special place to host them, reserve this.

Alma Tacos permanently closes in East Long Beach

Alma Tacos abruptly shuttered their East Long Beach shop after less than a year of operation. In a message shared on social media, the Bestelmeyer family said:

“It is with an equal measure of gratitude and sadness that we are letting you know that Alma Tacos will be closing… We are so thankful for the countless relationships we’ve built with our wonderful customers. From the kids who loved our churros, to the regulars who ate far too many chile-braised beef tacos, to Mahjong events and CSULB team meals, we love you all and will miss you greatly. You’ll see our family around, as Long Beach is home, and we’ll figure out what’s next.”

On a silver lining, Coffee Parlor and Pizza Parlor owner Joshua Knight will take over the space for an entirely new concept, further flexing his vastly underrated culinary skills.

For those that know Chef Eric Samaniego, there are definitive hints toward the work of his past, including an incredible array of pastas. But with dishes like fried chicken—an ode to his father—and mustard spätzle and roasted bone marrow drenched in salsa verde, we are seeing a side of him we haven’t seen before.

Bungalow Kitchen Long Beach is wonderfully Californian in its vibe—and it will be an adventure to witness how it will continue to evolve.

Dilly’s second anniversary officially kicked off this week, with its birthday food menu, launching six days of festivities through Sunday, Nov. 8. An anniversary ale made with Long Beach’s own ISM Brewing. Special bottles. An additional tap.

And—perhaps most exciting—a weekend tasting pass that deserves the attention of anyone who takes beer seriously. Or simply wants to explore what makes this particular sandwich shop so special.
