Long Beach Food Scene Intel is a series from Brian Addison that will recap food news throughout the city, both news that needs just a quick mention or repeated news where you might have missed the full features.

Trung Nguyen E-Coffee to open in Bixby Plaza

Bạc xĩu. Egg coffee. Muối coffee. Regular black coffee. Pandan coffee. These are just a handful of the options that will be at Trung Nguyen’s first Long Beach location, taking over the short-lived Berry Brand space next to Afters in the Bixby Village Plaza. Founded in 1996 by Dang Le Nguyen Vu, the brand grows its own beans in Vietnam and grown internationally, especially within the U.S.

4 Shore temporarily closes in Naples

Without providing more details, 4 Shore owner Joshua Sanchez has quiet closed the space, saying it will only be temporary. Chefs Ben Davenport (formerly of Michael’s on Naples and Layla) and Jared Ventura (formerly of Chianina and Michael’s on Naples) led a largely French-inflected Italian menu—think burrata and tomatoes or fish with red butter sauce. It is unclear if Sanchez is shedding the concept in its entirety or in part, but either way, its short-lived existence is a blow to a neighborhood that thrives on consistency.

Speaking of short-lived: Wing Ferno at Long Beach Boulevard and Willow Street has permanently shuttered, leaving it with its Gardena and Buena Park locations. In all frankness, all the closure really does is make me miss Gus’s more, which closed one month after Wing Ferno opened in 2023.

The 2nd Annual Food, Art, and Music Festival, aka FAM Fest, returns to Heritage Farm at 1336 Gladys Ave. on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 5PM to 9PM. And the lineup speaks for itself.

The Ordinarie is throwing quite the dinner: A three-course-paired-with-drinks dinner that opens with a welcome punch and ends with each guest walking home with a bottle of hand-selected Woodford Reserve. The $130 ticket will feature a polenta and prawns first course; a smoked lamb second course; and a brown butter cornbread for the third course, each coming a tasting and cocktail.

Reflecting on their time during Season 22 of Chef Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” chefs Johnathan Benvenuti and Sammi Tarantino will reunite at Bar Becky in East Long Beach for a ticketed seven-course dinner. Highlights? Their favorite farmers market produce—something Bar Becky already does spectacularly on the regular—and dishes from Hell’s Kitchen. Tickets are available here.

ICYMI: Nearing 15 years, the Long Beach Urban Farm Dinner continues to uplift our best chefs

One of my favorite food events, the Long Beach Urban Farm Dinner returns this Sunday—and while I encourage everyone who can to go, I also want to share the history of how this dinner has continually uplifted the Long Beach food scene.

It very much showcased that we not only have the culinary talent worthy of uplift but that we should outright celebrate it.
