They call it The Tremble Club, a nod to their Christmas efforts of last year dubbed The Tinsel Club. And with it, The Bamboo Club has not only created a solid’n’spooky six-cocktail menu for the witching season but decked out the space with ghoulishly great taste. (Who doesn’t want a skeleton-helmed scuba-gear-from-the-1950s statue at their Halloween party?)
This is The Tremble Club, debuting today at The Bamboo Club when it opens at 3PM—and it is stems from an idea we should all join in on celebrating citywide.
Bamboo’s ‘Tremble Club’ grasps holiday spirit in a way that everyone in Long Beach should.
I have always offered the encouragement toward businesses—especially bars and cocktail-heavy restaurants—to amp it up for holidays. Of course, it all started with Miracle at The Ordinarie, the absolutely over-the-top, tacky-in-the-best-way possible event where Christmas projectile vomits beautifully onto the space. Across the two-month holiday span post-Halloween to New Year’s Even, The Ordinarie becomes invariably invaded by a crazy cohort of customers. Wall-to-wall drinkers and partiers dressed in their holiday worst—ugly sweaters, lit-up hats, tinsel jewelry…—fill the sapce from day until night for two months straight.
It’s a viably steady way to bring in the crowds—and others have begun to harness that energy slowly. The Social List amped it up for Halloween as did Baby Gee Bar last year. And Bamboo Club did The Tinsel Club last year as well (and will return this year). No one has yet to tackle Valentine’s Day, the 4th, St. Patrick’s Day, Day of the Dead, Cinco de Mayo, National Coming Out Day, or the other plethora of options to have an excuse for going all out on decorations.
But I can tell you this much: It would make Long Beach even more of a destination if it became known as the city of the Holiday Worlds of Old. And Bmaboo Club has wittily picked up on that with Tremble Club.
Yes, you can expect even more Halloween splattered across the space.
“Oh, this is just the beginning,” said owner Jim Ritson. “We plan on just adding more and more things as we have the time to do so.”
What’s already in the space is awesome: Booths that feel like spider caves. Ceilings covered in webs. Skulls at nearly every corner. Orange, green, and purple lights. Lighting effects. And yes, the aforementioned skeleton-gone-scuba animatronic to greet you upon entrance.
And then there is tiki cocktail maestro Dustin Rodriguez’s witty if not outright playful cocktails that meld pop culture with tiki history. Riffs on everything an Eastern Sour (“Witches of Eastwick”) to a Pearl Diver (the shockingly good PSL-season-inspired Basic Witch) sit next to dangerous porch pounders (“Fall of Romulus,” a minty monument to the classic Missionary’s Downfall tiki drink).
It’s a whimsical, genuinely warmth-inducing vibe that is surely to become an annual tradition for many.
Here are the six goulishly good cocktails on The Tremble Club menu.
Honoring tiki classics while also uplifting some innovation, these cocktails bring in the spirit of Halloween in pure Long Beach style.
