Taking over the former Baja Cali space on Pine Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets—the middling taqueria closed back in December of 2024—600 Tacos will open its first brick-and-mortar. The owners said they expect to be open “within a month” and they are stoked to move beyond their rightfully popular food trucks and into the realm of permanent food spaces.

The Attic officially offers ‘girl dinners’ to the glee of ladies and the gays

A ten-olive martini. Fries. And a Caesar salad. It’s $32 at The Attic, and they appropriately dubbed it the “Ultimate Girl Dinner.” (Much obliged to the girls, gays, and lipstick lesbians, who beam proudly that such an offering exists.) That’s it. That’s the news.

Buen Provecho signage goes up in DTLB

Following the wage theft allegations that dominated the internet, Toma—from the former owner of Padre/Mezcalero—has sat empty. In fact, it has not seen life since the pandemic, when it was briefly Chef Jason Witzl of Ellie’s mariscos concept, Lupe’s. That is about to change: Isaias Hernandez of Broken Spirits Barbecue & Distillery (just across the street), will be taking over the space as Buon Provecho, which saw signage go up this week.

While details are limited, it will be a space that focuses on “the food I grew up eating as a multi-generational Mexican-American.”

Look for the full feature next week that lays out more details.

Welp, that was also fast: After the short-lived NFT-meets-crypto-meets-smash-burgers-carbon-copied-from-Trill-Burger-in-Texas concept Bored & Hungry shuttered to make way for the chain that is Chile Verde, the latter has permanently closed to make way for Mustards Cafe, whose signage has gone up. (It is unclear whether this is in any relation to the popular Newport Beach cafe of the same name.)

After their Surf & Saddle promotions at their other locations proved too popular, the Bungalow will be bringing its line dancin’ and drinkin’ event to its Long Beach location. Happening one Thursday a month, it’s “super fun, with a great modern mix of country and pop with DJ Pinke and line dance lessons with The Red Headed Cowgirl.”

The event is $25 per person and includes one premium cocktail or two beers. Surf & Saddle tickets can be found here.

The Ordinarie is going for ambitious in 2025: Come Oct. 3, it will transform into a chilling den of cocktails and creatures as it hosts the Black Lagoon pop-up, an immersive Halloween bar experience. Running through Nov. 1, it will then shutter for a handful of days to overturn the space into Miracle at The Ordinarie, the space’s wildly popular Christmas pop-up.
