Rotisserie chicken lovers rejoice: Zankou Chicken Long Beach is coming as the famed Los Angeles-based chicken chain that has built up a cult-like following over its nearly four-decade-long existence, will finally open a location in Long Beach.Taking over the second, easterly suite at 2590 N. Lakewood Blvd., the plan is to have it open before the major holidays, according to a marketing representative with the company.
Following his father’s Zankou Chicken restaurant in Beirut, Mardiros Iskenderian opened the first Zankou Chicken in Los Angeles in 1983.Its appeal from both critics and locals alike created a patronage that, to this day, continues to thrive—even after the horrifying and outright odd murders Iskenderian committed when he was battling cancer, including that of his own mother and sister, in a controversy that would rock the entire SoCal Armenian community for many years.
Zankou Chicken will be located in the second suite at 2590 N. Lakewood Blvd., just east of the Starbucks located at the same address.
