‘The Candy Queen’ to open shop in Belmont Shore

The Candy Queen herself, Jackie Sorkin of Candified on Netflix and Hulu, will be opening an interactive candy shop at the space directly west to Runner’s High in Belmont Shore. Snaps on her instagram haven’t revealed much—giant swirlpop statues, very colorful stairs, very pink interior—but she promises a “candy adventure” for every visitor, with the space expected to open this summer. And more sugar is quite literally next door…

…with the opening of Le Macaron directly next door to Candified. Founders Rosalie Guillem, who was living in Florida and her daughter, Audrey Guillem-Saba, living in France where the family is from, opened their first shop in 2009 in Florida. The shop has now expanded nationwide, being found in nearly every state with a continually growing presence here in California. They are expected to open in late summer.

South of Nick’s take a step closer toward fruition

The Shore just keeps coming with continual food updates: After announcing their presence last summer, South of Nick’s—the Mexican concept from the massive Nick’s Restaurant Group, who also owns Nick’s on 2nd up the street—has moved forward with scoring their alcohol license while also moving forward, albeit very slowly, on interior construction. Located at 5354 E. 2nd St. in Belmont Shore, there is no approximation for an opening date.

V-Crepe near Retro to close; replaced by vegan bakery

V-Crepe, the vegan crepe concept on Cherry just north of 4th Street and sister to the neighboring V-Burger, will close and has immediately become Baked Vegan Sweets, where you can score things like vegan Ding Dongs and tres leches cakes. An expansion of their existing location on Orange at 7th Street, the new shop will be open Thursday through Monday from noon to 7PM.

New sober bar ‘Shirley’s Temple’ to open

Shirley’s Temple owner Essie Evans, who is opening Shirley’s as one of Long Beach’s first “sober bars,” has announced that she is in her “final lease stages and plan to open toward the end of summer” with an address to be announced as she negotiates. “We will have a full list of uniquely crafted mocktails, healthy botanical drinks and even some CBD drinks for those who want a relaxed feel,” Evans said. “We will also have food and small bites. The point is to provide a safe haven for those who dont regularly drink alcohol or want to cut back for various reasons at any point in their life. This is for a very specific target audience so if its not for you, then no worries, no slander needed, there are tons of bars where you can get liquor and be on your way.”

Fire Wings to open second location in Long Beach

Fire Wings, which already opened a location at the 2nd + PCH retail complex, will be opening another location at the Long Beach Town Center in front of the entrance to the Edwards Theatre.
