Long Beach Food Scene Intel: Wrigley’s Wicked Wolf bar to open in Spring; culinary bookstore arriving on Retro Row, more

Here’s your latest in the local food scene:

  • The Wicked Wolf, a cottage-meets-fantasy inspired bar set to take over the former, two-story Chimbas Sports Bar on Pacific Avenue at Eagle Street in Wrigley, is expected to open this spring according to husband-and-wife owner team George Wolfe and Thea Mercouffer. The pair want to first focus on cocktails and mocktails—the latter which they will provide an extensive offering for to assure patrons who both drink alcohol and avoid it are welcomed—and will eventually dive into bites once the time comes.
  • Alamitos Beach local and budding home chef Matthew Miller will open Kitchen Lingo, a culinary bookstore, on Retro Row at the former Trebor/Nevets space at 2116 E. 4th St. According to Kate Katzban-Beren, Long Beach Food Scene member, the space will be opening in a few weeks with “tons of great cookbooks.” They will be located at the easternmost part of the building which currently occupied Oh La Vache, Retro Row’s stellar cheese shop.
  • The Nest También, the more upscale and dinner-focused offshoot of the vastly underrated Bellflower gem that is The Nest, will launch its Chef Series 3.0 tasting dinner by focusing on a more obscure, budding chefs across multiple plates and cocktails. The inaugural chef to partake, Chef Rose Molina, will be kicking the series off. For more information, click here.
  • Kebob Shop will be opening its 32nd location in Seal Beach at 12430 Seal Beach Blvd. on Friday, Mar. 3. The massive chain spans Florida, Texas, and California and offers fast-casual service focusing on—you guessed it—Middle Eastern and European kebobs.
  • Sure, St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday this year—but for those looking for a much less hectic, more more organized affair that is both kid-friendly and worry-less, look no further than Bixby Knolls’s annual Almost St. Patrick’s Day tradition.
