Sushi spot Aburi—the locally iconic, triangular mid-mod restaurant space off of Willow Street and Lakewood Boulevard—had long built up a name for its all-you-can-eat sushi: Quality sushi, with varying options of what you preferred to pay, meaning “regular” pricing gave you basic rolls for a lower price while “premium” would allow you to explore soft shell crab, uni, yellowtail toro…

Come 2021, the owners shifted management so they could focus on their Artesia and Pasadena locations—dubbed “Aikan Sushi”—while also opening a Northridge location in the midst.

In a short two years, the quality at Aburi dropped significantly: Gone were the small details—like seasoning different cuts of fish differently or presenting in the way the space was, and Aikan is, known for..

The owners have heard loud and clear: Announcing on their Instagram that original management is returning, the new Aikan Sushi will be opening Monday, May 8. It will have the same menu as their Northridge location.

Now go get your AYCE sushi on, Long Beach.
