East Long Beach’s Luna unveils brunch menu, open daily at 9AM

Share

Luna Bistro & Cafe—the East Long Beach Mexican-American space that has been warmly welcomed in a neighborhood largely dominated by corporate food—has unveiled its first brunch menu.

Giving its relatively new (and rather great) patio space more of an excuse to be used, the menu reflects everything Luna does well: fusing Mexican and American flavors. Chilaquiles stacks—where whole, fried tostadas are stuffed with layers of beans, cheese, and the space’s much-loved Michoaćan-style carnitas—drenched in salsa verde and topped with fried eggs. A play on steak and eggs meshing with steak and frites. Breakfast tacos. Chorizo eggs Benedict…

It’s everything the neighborhood has grown to love about Luna in a space where, after losing the nearby Local Spot, decent, non-chain brunches are hard to come by.

Luna and its brunch aren’t just a rarity within East Long Beach. With new hours, it’s a rarity citywide.

Luna is now open daily, Monday through Sunday, at 9AM.

This isn’t just a cheer for an industry that has been battered post-pandemic and faces an array of uphill challenges across 2026: People aren’t consuming as much alcohol as in previous years and are going out significantly less. They are also choosing extraordinary extremes in dining choices, even amid lower-income households: Either hyper-expensive treats—this past Valentine’s Day found Sky Room and Heritage sold out months in advance, while stellar, mid-range options like Bar Becky, Ellie’s, and El Barrio were wide open—or fast food.

This has caused Mondays to be a dry zone citywide, with a vast array of spaces being shuttered that day.

Which is why Luna is such a genuinely warm welcome. Or, in the words of owner Christian Alvarez, “Yes, we’re open. Everyday at 9AM. So come out, enjoy the patio, and feel everything that’s awesome about living in a city like Long Beach.”

A look into Luna’s brunch menu…

If they can maintain consistency and service standards, Luna’s brunch menu will unquestionably be a staple amongst the families and college kids alike that fill the nearby residences.

While not nearly representing the majority of the menu—unpictured are everything from morning nachos and burgers to breakfast burritos tacos—here are some of the dishes I got to experience…
