Long Beach restaurants partner with bands for Vans Warped Tour x LB Food Scene Week collaboration

Vans Warped Tour has partnered with Long Beach Food Scene for a highlight of local food at affordable prices. Including the efforts of the Downtown Long Beach Alliance and Visit LB, the celebration acts as a launch into both the tour and the 10-day food event. The collaborators have paired bands with restaurants to create affordable dishes for both festival attendees and locals.

Vans Warped Tour x Long Beach Food Scene: How did it come about?

Vans Warped Tour has long wanted to do one thing: Uphold its mission to better connect with the community. Even more, their mission to focus on accessibility—and in food terms, that meant cost—aligned perfectly as a segue into Long Beach Food Scene Week.

LBFSW isn’t about discounts or coupons, but flexing culinary power. However, I am not disengaged to the point that I realize that, particularly this year, people’s pockets are not as open as they were. People are both struggling to get by, but also in desperate need of escape. And that could be done in a way as simple as eating a burger that’s under $15.

Some of my personally favorite spaces—Selva, Black Pork, The 4th Horseman, CoffeeDrunk, Sideburns, and more—are participating with a wide array of bands, from Sublime and Of Mice & Men to 311 and Pennywise.

So as we prep for LBFSW to launch Aug. 1 through Aug. 10, this special collaboration with Vans Warped Tour acts as a segue for both festival goers and locals alike to experience the food of Long Beach without paying a hefty price. That is why every item, listed below, is $15 or under.

For many participating, the Vans Warped Tour collaboration hits deeply home.

Much like the spirit of Long Beach Beer Lab owner Levi Fried, when presented with the honor of creating a Sublime beer directly with the band, Chef Carlos Jurado is experiencing “wild” full-circle moments as his restaurant features a collaboration with Long Beach’s most famed band.

Recollecting sneaking into the Long Beach Dub All-Star house on the peninsula in his early teens while celebrating the 4th, the full-time chef, part-time skater has a deep connection with the sound that encouraged everyone to smoke two joints in the morning.

“From skating as a kid to hearing my parents play Sublime,  it’s always been in the soundtrack of this city and the culture that’s been bred here,” Chef Carlos said. “Those lyrics are burned into my brain and didn’t know they actually bring tears as well until I grew older. Memories of youth with my dad. Or mom. Or brother—almost blurs time. Sublime is the nostalgia we all long for. From coming from the gutter to seeing the Sublime name next to my little restaurant? Next to Selva? That is out of this world.  So humbled and truly honored to have a chance to do this.”

So what is being offered during the Vans Warped Tour x Long Beach Food Scene event? And what bands are partnering with what restaurants?
