Bellflower staple Teriyaki J’s has officially taken over the space on 7th Street that recently accommodated Adalberto’s first local location after it closed. It is a straightforward, no-frills spot serving teriyaki plates that have built up a loyal patronage in Bellflower. The menu centers on grilled chicken, beef, and shrimp, all cooked over an open flame and finished with their sweet-and-savory teriyaki sauce. Our Spot Coffee returns with new residency at Let’s Yolk About It

Praise the Caffeine Gods: Our Spot—Long Beach’s most innovative coffee concept—has returned, following its previous residency at Liv’s. Now, it has a residency at the back of Let’s Yolk About it beginning Tuesday, Feb. 17. Enter through the back alley or, if you’re so inclined, walk through the restaurant toward the back.
SALA officially reopens after vehicle crashed into Bixby Knolls space

For SALA Coffee & Wine owners and partners Brandee Raygoza and Derrick Montiel, they have reason to celebrate: Following a car crashing through their northern wall on the night of Monday, Jan. 19, they space has officially reopened for business after contractors patched their wall and city inspectors gave them the green light.
Mike Cokley steps away from Altar Society

Beasties—the Mexican smash burger concept that took over the former Eat Fantastic space after it re-located to 4th Street—has abruptly shuttered. Chef Jon Rogan stated there simply “wasn’t enough sales to sustain” in a “location that I truly believe is cursed.” With an extremely fair price point and a concept that was distinctly unique, the closure comes as a shock.
Bartender Colby Sue returns to Long Beach

Colby Sue—whose cocktail magic at The Ordinarie continues to be remembered—has returned to Long Beach following a stint at 320 Main in Seal Beach. He is currently heading up the bar at the newly minted Buen Provecho, directly up The Promenade from The Ordinarie. Let’s give him a warm welcome back and rejoice that our cocktail scene just got a bit better with him back.
Speak Cheezy expands hours; now open on Mondays

Praise the pizza gods: Chef Jason Winters has officially began opening his much-loved pizzeria in Belmont Heights on Mondays—a much-needed addition to a city that, post-pandemic, has been difficult to find Monday lunches and dinners.
ICYMI: Sunrise Shack Hawaii to open first Long Beach location near LBCC on Feb. 14

Hawaii lovers, rejoice: Sunrise Shack, the literal shack based out of Oahu and known for its smoothie bowls and coffee, opened their first stateside shack in Long Beach on Feb. 14. Taking over the former Playas ceviche and torta shop that closed earlier this year, the idea is to have the Long Beach location act as a central hub for its mainland expansion.
