Long Beach comedian Gabriel Iglesias, aka Fluffy, to receive Key to the City (free/low-cost show included)

Comedian and all-around lover of all things Long Beach Gabriel Iglesias—known to his legion of fans as “Fluffy”—will receive a prestigious Key to the City.

And yes, it comes with a performance from the famed comedian on Tuesday, June 18 at the Long Beach Terrace Theatre.

Gabriel Iglesias is getting a Key to the City and providing a show? Yes.

Indeed, Fluffy himself will take the moment garnering his Key to the City as one to perform for his hometown. Come Tuesday, June 18th at 8PM, he will join longtime collaborator and fellow comedian Martin Moreno at the Long Beach Terrace Theatre in Downtown Long Beach for a show that will be free for some and cheap for others.

Long Beach residents aged 16 to 24 may attend for free by requesting a ticket from their City Council Office. Public general admission tickets will be on sale at noon on Tuesday, June 11 via Ticketmaster for $15. Partial proceeds from ticket sales will benefit The Mayor’s Fund for Long Beach in support of the Mayor’s recently-announced S.T.R.O.N.G. Beach initiative.

The show will feature a youth-focused job and resource fair starting at 6:30 p.m., food trucks, and bars available for those over 21.

Fluffy’s Key to the City is a rightful bestowing given his contribution to comedy and his love of Long Beach

Gabriel Iglesias has been, like famed Long Beach natives such as Snoop Dogg and Vince Staples, dedicated to his hometown. There are references to Long Beach in his stand-ups (for which he just recently inked a two-show deal with Netflix). He has created shows that literally take place in Long Beach. Even better? He is a constant patron of everywhere from Parker’s Lighthouse to Lola’s Mexican Cuisine. In other words: Fluffy is Long Beach through and through.

“I’m honored to be recognized by my hometown in this way. And I’m proud to be able to support Long Beach’s youth at the same time,” Iglesias said. “If you’re a kid growing up in a tough situation, you might not believe that there’s a whole other world out there waiting for you—but there is. I’m proof of that, and you can be too.”

The City Council will honor Additional 2024 Key to the City honorees in July

Joining Iglesias will be Long Beach lawyer guru Samuel “Skip” Keesal and his wife Beth, along with longtime church leaders and city advocates Rev. Dr. Leon and Paula Wood. Each will be honored at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 16 at 5PM.

“Each of these extraordinary people represent the best of Long Beach, whether it be through philanthropy, service to the community, or representing our city to the world at large,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “We are thrilled to celebrate their contributions to our community.”

Tuesday, June 18th at 8PM, he will join longtime collaborator and fellow comedian Martin Moreno at the Long Beach Terrace Theatre in Downtown Long Beach for a show that will be free for some and cheap for others.
