Zaferia’s Hideaway closes permanently to make way for Colombian concept Selva

Share

The Hideaway, the mid-mod-inspired steakhouse that helped elevate Zaferia’s dining scene, is closing to make way for a new concept dubbed Selva. Hideaway and neighboring Roundin’ 3rd owner Geoff Rau confirmed that he is abandoning the Hideaway to make way for a saloon-inspired, Central- and South American food concept.

“We are very excited about the new concept and its food,” Rau said. “Can’t wait for you to meet the new chef.”

While I wait to meet the new chef and do a full feature on Selva, we can collectively lament the loss of The Hideaway: Opening with the talents of Chef Arthur Gonzalez of Panxa, The Hideaway was a protein-centric gem that honored the classic steakhouse. In this sense, it is a smart move on Rau’s part: With the loss of Gonzalez shortly followed by the loss of Gonzalez’s understudy that took over his space, The Hideaway felt like a concept more and more removed from its original intention.

And even more, the food reflected that loss. With an entirely new concept with an entirely new chef, it is likely to create a fresher start for Rau following the absence of Gonzalez and folks expecting The Hideaway’s original quality. Look for the feature on Selva in the coming weeks.

The Hideaway was located at 4137 E. Anaheim.
