Baby Gee returns with holiday cocktails, snow over 4th Street, and Long Beach mischief

Baby Gee’s holiday tradition of cocktails’n’snowstorms continues as it unveiled its 2025 holiday menu this week. Owner and champion cocktail concoctioneer Gianna Johns—just weeks after unveiling the space’s winter menu, which will run concurrently with its holiday offerings—has unveiled a tight, concise set of offerings that are admirably accessible but stay true to the space’s love of libation exploration.

Snowstorms on the hour, Jell-O shots, and plenty of warmth round Baby Gee’s 2025 holiday menu.

Gianna has cultivated a holiday cocktail menu at Baby Gee that balances pure seasonal comfort with the kind of playful, unexpected twists that have made the bar a regional standout. Drinks like the Hot Pineapple Cider and Hot Buttered Rum lean into the nostalgic and warmth—literally. The cider—brilliantly brightened with pineapple—is worthy with or without booze while the buttered rum is kept wonderfully classic without the need for over-reinterpretation.

But, as always, she layers that comfort with signature Baby Gee irreverence: an absolutely solid banana coquito riff packed with evaporated coconut milk and spice. A pear-and-coconut-water cooler that feels alpine and tropical at the same time while served in massive, lit-up, BuzzBall-like vessels. And the deeply inventive Fezziwig’s Revenge, where rye and Vietnamese amaro meet lavender masala and bergamot—a surprisingly bright drink for something so booze-forward. Even the sweeter, sillier moments—like the Uh-Oh Ho Ho candy-cane Jell-O shot—feel elevated rather than gimmicky, reflecting a bar program that never shies away from fun but never compromises craft.

The food at Baby Gee is some of the best bar food in town. And that $4 happy hour hot dog? Shouldn’t skip it. Photos by Brian Addison.

That sense of heart extends beyond the glass. Co-owner Daniel Flores anchors the food program with an unexpected lineup that has become one of the bar scene’s quiet treasures: stellar happy hour hot dogs (which lovingly match the hot dog lights on their tree). Crispy flatbreads that are topped with everything from Castelvetrano olives to Long Beach Mushrooms fare. (Pro tip: ask for an extra side of Calabrian chile and Maldon to amp up the heat and flavor as a dipping sauce of sorts.) Solid seasoned nuts.

Much like Gianna’s drinks, Daniel’s food is designed for comfort but tuned with intention—bar fare that feels welcoming yet quality-driven. Together, their partnership creates a holiday experience that feels uniquely Baby Gee: warm, a little mischievous, deeply seasonal, and unmistakably crafted by people who love what they do.

Baby Gee continues to lead the cocktail revolution in Long Beach.

To say Gianna and Daniel are busy is an understatement. They opened their first restaurant, Due Fiori, and before reaching its half-year mark, already launched into lunch hours on the weekend, a full-on brunch menu, and some pretty spectacular collaborations.

I once asked Gianna how many cocktails she has made since Baby Gee opened in the beginning of 2023. Without including special menus—ones for parties like the hospitality appreciation event they hosted for my Long Beach Food Scene Week or brand collaborations like their recent partnership with Cointreau for a Cosmos and Caviar night…—she responded, “Over 200.”

And she is right: With 18 cocktails gracing each seasonal menu, Gianna and her team have come up with well over 200 cocktails, pushing 300 if we include special events. It is an impressive array of creations to have concocted across the period Baby Gee has been around—and marks a quantifiable aspect to their three Spirited awards.

A look into the 2025 holiday cocktails at Baby Gee…

Incredibly approachable yet innovative. Whimsical as always, but consistently quality-centric. And yes, Gianna’s obsession with Jell-O shots continues in one of her best creations yet.
